Situated in America’s southeast is the State of Alabama. It’s known for its inland waterways, beaches, country music, southern hospitality and one other thing. Its hiking trails. The latter feature is what we’d like to talk about today. So, without further delay, here’s a look at several great places in the Heart of Dixie that are perfect for spring hiking trips:

Gulf State Park

First on our list is Gulf State Park. You’ll find it tucked away in Baldwin County, within the City of Gulf Shores. We love the park because it’s dog friendly. So, don’t forget to bring all of those cool dog toys and rawhides that you bought from Pugs to the park with you. They’ll come in handy, especially if you plan on playing catch with Fido before or after your hike. We should also mention that in addition to the trails, there is a section of the park’s lake that is open to dogs. Thus, taking a swim after hiking is a possibility too.

Oak Mountain State Park

If you are looking for a place that has more than 20-miles of trails, consider putting on your Pugs ball cap and heading to Oak Mountain State Park in Shelby County. It is situated in the City of Pelham and has dog friendly campsites on site if you’d like to make a weekend of it. In addition to the trails and dog friendly campsites, the area is home to a cable water sports park, BMX track, mountain biking areas, a golf course and much more. That said, it may be best to stay at the park with your pooch for a whole week.

Lake Guntersville State Park

You might want to visit Marshall County’s Lake Guntersville State Park too. Not only is it a dog friendly place to hike, there is fishing, golfing, boating and a wine bar on premise too. Plus, caverns and other really cool attractions are located nearby. Oh, and by the way, there are 36+ trails to explore on your own or with friends. The dogs are welcome to walk with you in the assorted day areas but not necessarily on the trails. So, when you arrive ask the rangers which ones are currently open to canine traffic.
