If you haven't seen "Cool Runnings," then you should probably finish reading this blog and immediately find yourself a copy on Netflix or Redbox or something like that. It's an awesome movie based on the true story of the 1988 Jamaican national bobsled team who participated in the event for the first time. It's very funny and a great sports film.
Now in 2014, dubbing themselves "Cool Runnings, The Second Generation," the Jamaican national team has again qualified for the Winter Olympics, held this year in Sochi, Russia. When it was revealed that the Jamaican Olympic committee was unable to cover all the costs to get the team to the competition, the internet jumped in to help!
Between donations from people on crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo, e-currency like dogecoin, and sponsorships, it looks like the Jamaican team may have enough to attend and compete well in the Sochi Olympics this year. In just the past three days since their qualification was announced on Saturday, the team has raised over $120,000 online. Thanks to the inspiring film that depicted the team's humble beginnings, people are quick to help another team relive the Olympic Dream!
