Every winter, in our own way, we yarn to mimic the free-soaring birds heading south in order to escape the brutally cold temperatures of the north. Unfortunately, we weren’t designed to fly free literally and metaphorically. Budgets and prior commitments hold us back from flying toward warmer weather. Fortunately, the holidays are a designated time for travel and relaxation, and if you’re a savvy shopper you can find a great vacation destination without having to break that piggy bank. Start packing your bags, because we’ve gathered the best affordable winter destinations for you and the whole family.

Key West, Florida

If you’re looking to embody the spirit of Ernest Hemingway, book your tickets to the Key West. The photogenic crystal blue beaches offer a variety of opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling. Visit Victorian homes, Hemingway’s legendary house survived and inhabited by his dozens of cats and countless outdoor art galleries.

Tybee Island, Georgia

This quaint town boasts 5 miles of clean and quiet beaches, a boardwalk with a historic lighthouse, and most importantly low key lodging. In the evenings, enjoy dinners and shows in the beautiful town of Savannah, only 17 miles away!

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is an affordable city to let loose and explore. Visit the French Quarters, go on a swamp tour, or tour The Sydney and Walda Bestoff Outdoor Sculpture Garden to catch some sun while strolling through the country’s most iconic sculptures.

Scottsdale, Arizona

We’ll let you in on a secret – Scottsdale is a steal during the holidays. Bask in the desert sun while you’re hiking or taking advantage of Arizona’s evergreen golf courses. In the evenings, treat yourself and a significant other to a massage at a pristine spa. But hurry, their deals won’t last long.

Santa Elena Canyon, Texas

This canyon is centrally located on the border of Texas and Mexico. It’s as much breathtaking as it is scenic. If you’re the type to prefer bouldering over hiking, the mountain boasts 1,500 of rock formation and an ideal climate of mild temperature with slight rainfall.

With a carefully planned vacation, you don’t have to break the bank for a great get-a-way. Relax, take in the sunshine, and don’t forget to bring along your Pugs Gear and polarized sunglasses to protect you from the southern heat.
