ice-skating-235547_1280Do you love strapping on the ice skates each winter? Maybe you use them to play ice hockey, speed skate or channel your inner figure skater. Either way, there are certainly a lot of winter sports spots located across this great nation that offer wonderful opportunities to get one’s skate on. We know of several that are tucked away in Virginia. So you might want to sharpen your blades and take a road trip that includes one of the following Old Dominion skate spots:

Wintergreen Resort (Nellysford)

If you’ll be traveling with small children, Nellysford’s Wintergreen Resort is by far one of the best places to go. It’s got a huge ice skating rink that can accommodate more than 50 avid ice skaters at one time. On top of that, there’s a terrain park for snowboarders, downhill ski trails, snow tubing and a special play area for the kids.

Prince William Ice Center (Woodbridge)

If ice hockey is more your passion, try Woodbridge’s Prince William Ice Center. It has a really impressive group of rinks, including an NHL regulation size one. Plus, they have a cool pro shop, skate academy and café onsite. So you’ll be able to rent or buy skates and pick up a few snacks.

Ashburn Ice House (Ashburn)

The Ashburn Ice House is another ice skating spot that we felt was worth talking about. They have a rink that’s suitable for figure skating, free skating and playing ice hockey. Furthermore, there is a fitness center, café and pro shop all located at the same venue.

Harris Pavilion Ice Rink (Manassas)

If you prefer to ice skate outdoors but long for a least a bit of shelter, check out the Harris Pavilion Ice Rink in Manassas. It’s well-maintained, easy to get to and open at night. Plus, the staff always makes sure that there is some type of music playing in the background, which is always nice around Christmas and New Years.

Whichever Virginia ice skating spot you decide to put onto your weekend agenda, remember to dress warmly. Pugs cool beanies and gloves are a definite must. We’ve got them in an array of styles, colors and types. Some are even reversible! So if you stay the weekend, you can easily change up your look every time you head out to hit the ice.
