With the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally coming to an end this week, the summer season of motorcycle rallies ends as well. After 75 years of tradition, Sturgis is perhaps the most well-known rally in the country. Located in Sturgis, South Dakota, it is a great place to stop on your cross country road trip, and also is a destination near many scenic drives.
The small town of Sturgis swelled from 7,000 to over 800,000 people this past year; that’s a lot of bikers looking for a good time. Although the largest one is ending this week, there are still a lot of rallies to go to this fall before the cold weather makes riding not as enjoyable. Pugs has put together a list for you to get the most out of your fall, and help you attend a motorcycle rally before the winter comes.
1. Daytona Beach Biketoberfest
When: October 15-18th 2015
Where: Daytona Beach, FL
In the biker world, Daytona Beach is more well known for its Bike Week that happens every spring. Bike Week’s brother, Biketoberfest, has much to offer itself. Fall in Florida is a great time to visit, not too hot nor humid, with enough breeze to keep you cool on the road.
There's much to do in Daytona, and this rally offers live music, beach rides and the opportunity to watch professional bikers on the Daytona Speedway.
2. Love Ride
When: October 18,2015
Where: San Francisco, CA
The Love Ride is a one day event in San Francisco that combines a shared passion of motercycles with the passion of helping people. This charity event is an effort to show how charitable bikers are, raising over $24 million in its 32 year history. This year’s beneficiary is the Wounded Warrior Project.
Starting at the Glendale Harley Davidson in the morning, the ride starts with a concert. After the on-stage events to begin the day, the ride leaves at 9am and ends at Castaic Lake. Foo Fighters take the stage in early afternoon once the bikers get to the lake. This fun filled day is a great way to meet other bikers, hear great music and support a good cause.
3. Lynchburg Motorcycle Rally
When: September 11-12th
Where: Lynchburg, TN
You may recognize Lynchburg, not because of the Motorcycle Rally but for the famous black bottles it adorns across the nation. Lynchburg is famously the home to the Jack Daniels Distillery, as it is proudly proclaimed on the legendary black label of the Tennessee whiskey.
This rally will be smaller than any rally in motorcycle hubs like Daytona and Sturgis, but it offers a more comfortable feel. If you’re a biker and have yet to take a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery, this would be the time to do it. Pair this rally with a distillery tour and a drive through the Smokey Mountains and you have a solid long weekend of riding ahead of you. This rally has been going for 13 years and has free general admission, so there will be little stress that comes with dealing with large crowds at other rallies.
4. Ocean City Bike Rally
When: September 17th-20th
Where: Ocean City, MD
Boasting as the largest motorcycle event in the mid-Atlantic region, the Ocean City Bike Rally draws a crowd of over 160,000 people to the area. Similar to many rallies, the OC Bike Fest is pairing up with non-profits to benefit charity while providing a fun and enjoyable time for all.
A four day event complete with concerts, entertainment and stunt teams, the OC Bike Rally has something for all types of bikers. Soak in the ocean breeze and enjoy a weekend of high powered engines and high powered fun.
Even if you are not able to make it to one of these motorcycle rallies this fall, make sure to enjoy the fall weather and get on the road. If you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, you never know when your last chance to get on the road for the season will be. Ride on!
