You made it a point to watch all of the movies in the Jurassic Park series and are looking forward to the June 2015 release of Jurassic World. However, you’d really dig having an outdoor adventure of your own. What to do, what to do? Ahaa, we know. Why not sign on for a dinosaur dig in Colorado? You’ve already got love for the giant beasts, and Colorado is ripe with paleontology tours. Plus we’ve got the outdoor apparel that will have you looking mighty fine while you brush away the soil from those long-lost dino bones. Here are several dyno-mite places to consider exploring:

Fruita Paleontological Area

First on our list is the Fruita Paleontological Area. You’ll find the 360-acre long bone yard located just outside of the City of Fruita. Maintained year-round by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the Museum of Western Colorado, it’s one of several places in the state where you can partake of guided digs and tour offerings. The museum is generally the one that sponsors the digs, which have a tendency to take place June through August.

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

Next, we have to mention the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, near the City of Divide. It may not be as attractive to Jurassic mammal hunters as Fruita, but it’s an awesome place to look at fossilized insects, fish and ancient vegetation. Hiking trails, a fossil learning laboratory and paleontology exhibits are on site. The only downside is authentic dinosaur digs are not available.

Dinosaur National Monument

Of course we can’t leave Dinosaur National Monument off of our list. Located on the border of Colorado and Utah, it is one of the most loved dino destinations in the American west. It features a huge assortment of fossils, exhibits, hiking trails, whitewater rafting opportunities and more. Just don’t count on being able to head out and excavate dinosaur bones on your own. Unfortunately, it’s not permissible at this time.
