Curt Gowdy is one of the places to hit on a nice sunny day outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming. At Curt Gowdy State Park, off of Highway 210 between Cheyenne and Laramie, one can take in rolling plains, the rocky hills, Crystal and Granite Lakes, and enjoy many hiking trails for all skill levels! With 35 miles of trails that connect the two lakes as well as all over the state park, there is an abundance of trails and levels to chose from.
Curt Gowdy is also one of the many places to bike along the trails too. On the Middle Kingdom trail, there is a bike play area with all sorts of rough terrain full of challenges even for the experience cyclists! The state park was awarded with the designation of Epic from the The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) in 2009.
All trails are color coded on the map to show the different skill levels. While most of the trails are intermediate, you can find easy trails to extremely difficult. But with each trail, there is a breathtaking scene to breathe in and a new perspective on the wilderness of Wyoming.
Taking the intermediate Middle Kingdom trail will lead you up the rocky ridge to one of the highest peaks at Curt Gowdy. There you can overlook Granite Lake and all of the rolling hills beyond it. This trail is intermediate for the climb up the ridge to see the breathtaking view. But coming down is always the easiest!
To walk beside the flowing stream that connects the lakes is the intermediate trail, Canyons. Walking down this trail will help you relax with the flow of the water as you wind through the canyon. This is also a great fishing spot for those who are fishermen and love to catch some good sized trout!
You can even enjoy the scenery with your four legged friend on the Equestrian trails found at the Aspen Grove Trailhead. The Larait Trail will take you cross country into the hills and plains of the land beyond.
Just in case you were wondering, you can even bring man's best friend on most trails!
When traveling these trails, it's always a good idea to wear affordable sunglasses, a hat, and gloves if biking or climbing. Take a peek at our website and check out the great deals we have on all the gear you need this summer!
